Fil-Am band Legaci to perform with Justin Bieber

MANILA, Philippines -- The Filipino-American vocal group Legaci has been performing in the US since the late ‘90s. This May, the local audience will get a taste of their world-class music as they hit our shores and take the stage for Justin Bieber’s My World Concert Tour.

The Legaci story goes back a long way—over a decade, in fact, to California in 1997. Original members Mathew Arcilla, Jason Atencion, John Daria and Micah Tolentino formed the band and began performing a mix of cover and original songs in various talent shows and competitions throughout the state. Even then, they attracted much attention, opening for bands such as Vertical Horizon, LFO and Smashmouth.

In 2006, they released their first album, “Little Black Book,” under Kamikaze records. A year and a few members later, 2007 saw the release of their EP entitled “Sessions.” Now composed of Chris Abad, Jason Atencion, Delfin Lazaro, Dominic Manuel and original member Micah Tolentino, they made the decision of bringing their music to YouTube—and it has been a steep uphill climb since.

Reaching a cumulative total of over 12 million hits to date, Legaci became a YouTube scene-stealer, causing many internet-goers to stop and ooh and ahh, including (and who would’ve thought!) American talent manager Scooter Braun, who handles Canadian sensation Justin Bieber.

Braun saw the video of the group performing a cover of Justin Bieber’s “Baby” with YouTube users Cathy Nguyen and Traphik—and knew he had found something great. The next day, he contacted the group. The week after that, they were flown out to begin rehearsing for the promotion of Justin Bieber’s new album, “My World 2.0.”

The band’s rise to centerstage has been a generous mix of raw talent and good fortune, mirroring Bieber’s own—and they have been performing with Bieber ever since.
